Our Public Outreach Coordinators have an opportunity for our club to be represented in some promotional fliers advertising the Tri-Cities area. If you are willing to donate a photo or two from around the Tri-Cities, perhaps you will help promote our club and give yourself some exposure as well.
Photos are needed for informational fliers being published in July and August to advertise a Realtor's convention in the Tri-Cities. There is a public opinion that Tri-Cities is dry and ugly and the convention organizers want to show that the Tri-Cities does have attractions to offer. Photos of golf courses, hydro races, balloon festivals, wineries, etc are welcome (anything that makes the Tri-City Area look attractive). Email your photos or questions to Judi Hastings (see our contact page).

The TC Herald has expressed interest in sending along one of there reporters to possibly interview willing members for a story. EyeFetch Outage
EyeFetch suffered an outage this weekend as some of you may have noticed. Since we are not in control of this service we are at the whim of any issues they have and unfortunately this weekends outage was combined with some personal tragedy of the main EyeFetch admin. A thread on our Groups EyeFetch page has a link to a brief explanation of the outage.

Summer Break
TCDPC will be on a Summer Break for the months of June, July and August. During this time we will continue to sponsor field trips and the monthly EyeFetch Competitions (see the Events & Competition Tabs for details). Our next public meeting will resume on September 18th at the Benton Auditorium in Kennewick.
June, 2008
KNDU Rescheduled
KNDU has completed the repairs on their mobile studio and will conduct a live interview with Jack and Lee just before our startup again in September. Stay tuned for dates and details
KNDU had to cancel the
live spot with TCDPC due to some mechanical porblems with their live feed truck.
The interview will be resheduled for a different time day which has yet to be
set, so stay tuned...when we know we will be sure to pass things
along. Thursday (5/29) our
very own Jack and Lee Farrell will be interviewed by KNDU four times during the
morning news. So be sure to tune in and check it out. There is a chance that we
will also see the interview featured during the five o'clock news on
KNDU. Thursday, May 15,
2008 Our next meeting will
be on May 29th at the Benton PUD location the doors will open at 6pm. We felt we
should update you to clarify any confusion caused by the attempt to move the
meeting to the Battelle Auditorium. The camping trip to
the west side is drawing near and we have put together a guidebook with maps,
directions, suggestions and some details about the trip you can find it (here).
There is still a few spots available for this trip so check the events page for
contact information. This should be a real fun trip! So don't forget to
login to EyeFetch and share your thoughts and vote on our monthly
contest entries. Please be respectful and keep you comments constructive as many
of our contestants have worked hard creating their entries. Suggested voting
guidelines can be found on the Competition page. This Saturday (5/10)
at 9pm is the dead line for entering your photos for this month's contests. Be
sure to get them in early, so you can avoid any last minute
issues...more The reason for the early deadline was a result ot the
potential move to the Battelle Auditorium. We thought we might be in a new
location and if we had been the meeting would have been 5/15. The 5/10 deadline
was set for this reason and once set we cannot change the contest until it has
ended. To compensate the June contests will run a bit longer, all the way up
until the deadline before the June monthly meeting. The official TCDPC
Newsletter is out! Don't be left out, if you did not get your copy please let us
know (click here) and make sure to sign up
for future Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts delivered right to your email
box. You can sign up here. Camping trip is coming
up in just a little over 2 weeks. So for those of you that have signed up we
have added a list of suggested items to help you get started on your own list of
items to bring. This should be a great trip filled with lots of great photo
opportunities, so if you have not signed up there is still a little room left.
Please check out the Events Page for details
and contact information. Please accept our appologies. At the
April meeting we announced plans to move our club meetings to the Battelle
Auditorium in Richland starting May 15th. Upon further review, and based
in part on the answers to our survey, we have decided this is not a good move
for the club at this time. May's club meeting will be held at the Benton PUD as
usual and at the original scheduled date/time of May 29th. Again, sorry
for any convenience this may have
caused. Tonight (4/24) is our monthly
club meeting and we have some big news to share with everyone so be sure to come
out! If you won't be able to make the meeting be sure to check the website for
news about the announcement we will make tonight. Come early to get a good seat
the doors open at 6pm. See you
there! Wednesday, April 23, 2008 This Fun Top 5 List was found on Scott Kelby's webpage and we thought it
might be fun for some of our members. So enjoy the list there is something there
for just about any photographer you can find the list here. For
those that don't know who Scott Kelby is, he is an author, editor, publisher,
teacher, photographer and the President of The

from here. The voting phase of our most recent challenges our in
progress now in our EyeFetch group so if you have not
already head over sign it and take some time to vote. Please take the time
during your voting to comment on some or all of the contest

worked hard creating their contest entries so remember to be fair, honest and
respectful as this experience is meant to be a fun learning exercise.
Tonight at 9pm is the dead line for Aprils contests

have any photos stored in that gallery that you do not have copies of backed up
on your personal computer or another location we ask that you please download

that we park in a different location to allow room for Beaver Barks regular
customers....more Abadan Reprographics located at 79 Aron Dr is just a short
distance away, has agreed to let us use their parking lot. We have asked some of
our members to help shuttle people back and forth in an effort to minimize any
inconvenience this may cause. This should be a fun afternoon of learning and
photography! Monday,

news has given us access to this event for the next five years! (read on...)
Jim Adrian our contact
for this NCAA event was recently elected chair for a new five year term!
(Way to go Jim!) He contacted TCDPC immediately and asked if we would
be interested in shooting this event for the next five years! Jim was ecstatic
about our photos and slideshow and says that every time he shows someone new
they ask him to play it again 2-3 more times. Jim also indicated that in
exchange for our efforts every year they will plan to donate "at least" $100 to
the club each time. Way to go club on a job well done....Let’s hear three cheers
for our future.....uh....oops I mean FIVE! The next scheduled tourny is Feb 26-Mar 1st,

March 28, 2008 That is what we all
heard and saw as Scott Armstrong of Elliott's Photography demonstrated and explained about studio
lighting techniques last night. Scott's presentation was fantastic and you our
members showed up in force making our March meeting a great success! Thank
You! Tonight is our monthly
meeting and it should be filled with lots of attendees so be sure to come early
to get a good seat, the doors open at 6pm. Our main topic tonight is studio
lighting 'how to's' and equipment. So be sure to come out and learn some new
stuff! You can find a map to the Benton PUD Auditorium on our contact us
page. All TCDPC members have
been giving login access to EyeFetch! We want everyone to login and
take a few minutes to vote for your favorites...you only have until Wednesday,
March 26th. So sign on and VOTE! more on info page You do not have to have a
contest entry to vote and one of the best ways to learn how to take better
pictures, is to look at lots of other pictures and see all the different and
creative ways a photo can be made. By viewing and commenting on other peoples
photographs you begin to see and understand different photographic concepts and
techniques. Information that the camera stores in the digital image (exif data)
is a great way to see how some images were created, by sharing shutter speeds,
aperture, ISO settings and focal lengths. It was brought to our
attention early this morning by some sharp members that a problem exists within
EyeFetch that will not allow you to vote on all of the 'Wine Country
entries.....see info page for
more. We are working to correct this and are hot
on the trail of some leads. We ask that you please be patient with us while
we try and resolve this problem. If you have experienced a problem with
EyeFetchs voting in this challenge please follow the link in our forum thread
and report your experience, the more clues we have the easier it gets to find a
fix. Thank you for your patience! The voting for our March Photo Challenge has begun. Show your
support for our members that have entered by voting and commenting. Its one of
the best ways to learn ! TCDPC has
two new exciting club offices that we need to fill. Do you have what we are
looking for? Please check out the Contact
Us page for descriptions on both of these new positions.

the Mid Columbia Library is up and getting lots of
interest. The librarians have been getting lots of questions and Jack
Farrell has been feverishly preparing for his presentation March 19th at 6pm at
the library. So if you missed the our first presentation 'It's not the size
of you equipment, But how you use it' Then this is a great time to check it out.

successfully move over to the online voting site at www.eyefetch.com, we have less and less
need to maintain our current forums and gallery pages on this site. The forums
have been removed from the "Talk Back" page in favor of the forums provided in
our group at eyefetch.com. The gallery will be replaced in the near
future. Naches Wildlife

busy. Recently she had us registered with KNDU where we show up on their

easier. TCDPC has
MOVED!! We are literally bursting at the seams!
Our club has simply outgrown the Mid-Columbia Library and changes needed to be
made right away! Membership has been steadily increasing
each month as word of mouth spreads and there is no slow down in
sight. January's club meeting will be held at
our new location at the Benton PUD Auditorium on the corner of Highway 395 and
10th in Kennewick. With the new location, our club will have many new
benefits including: See the Contact Us Page for a map to the
new location. Massive club
growth means changes are coming! TCDPC has literally outgrown the Mid
Columbia Library in just two short months! Membership will be over 60 members
BEFORE the January club meeting. Your club officers are now frantically in
the process of securing a new location with more seating capacity to meet our
growing needs! Several locations have been selected as potential candidates for
our move and the club is in the process of looking at purchasing a used overhead
projector that we can own. If anyone in the club has an overhead
projector that the club could use or purchase, please contact the president as
soon as possible. In addition, we will always gladly accept donations
toward the purchase of equipment for the club. With membership dues so
low, club funds are not sufficient for major
purchases. Thanks to all of you for making the
Tri-City Digital Photography Club the biggest thing to hit the Tri-City
photography community since 70-200mm f/2.8
lenses! Winter in the
Dalles (First TCDPC Field Trip) An incredible 20 people participated in
the first ever TCDPC field trip dispite the fact that many individuals had to
get up before 5am to be at the departure site on time. Robert (Bob) Davis
conducted a wonderful tour of abandoned farm houses and rustic scenery that was,
at times, truly off the beaten path.Several individuals came down from Portland
to meet the club and informed us that they too intend to join the Tri-City
Digital Photography Club. As crazy as it seems, membership continues to
explode! New Podcast on RAW
vs. Jpeg Your TCDPC president has recorded a new
podcast for the "Podcast for Digital
Photographers" in which they discuss RAW vs. jpg. If
you'd like a preview of this months topic, follow the link to
listen... Is Adobe's
Creative Suite 3 (CS3) Spying on it's
customers? Stories have been circulating the internet of late
accusing Adobe of secretly spying on their customers every time Adobe CS3 is
launched. According to the allegations, CS3 pings a web analytics website and
transfers information about the user's behavior every time the program is
launched. Read one article making this allegation here: http://www.internetnews.com/security/article.php/3719351
New Olympus E-3
DSLR making a splash! DSLR cameras are notoriously sensative to water damage
and you'd never see digital photographers shooting in a downpour of rain - until
now. Olympus has been making waves with it's new "splash proof" DSLR. If you're
interested, check out the link to one article we found: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22990545-11869,00.html Tri-City Herald
Looking for Outdoor Photos Did you know that the Tri-City Herald is always looking
for good outdoor photography to publish in the local paper? One of our members,
Alan Wicks, spotted their request for photos last week and sent us this
information: HERALD LOOKING FOR GOOD OUTDOORS PHOTOGRAPHS It doesn’t
have to be the quality of an Ansel Adams photo, but we’re looking for good
outdoor photographs to run as a Reader Snapshot on the outdoors page. If it is
an electronic file, we’d prefer it to be a high quality JPG, RGB file of at
least 250 dpi (resolution). Please include information for a caption, as well as
our phone number and e-mail so we can contact you with any questions. Photos in
focus have a better chance of being published. Send submissions to
kmccullen@tricityherald.com. Invite Someone to
your PAD and PAW them! Do you want to take more photos this year? Consider
starting a Photo a Day (PAD) project or a Photo a Week (PAW) project. See
our "Info Page" under "Recommendations" for more
information. Tacoma Police
issue appology letter to photographer Do you know your rights as a photographer? A breaking
news story from Tacoma details how one student recieved an apology letter for
being threatened with arrest if he didn't stop shooting photos. See our "Info
Page" under "Recommendations" for the news. Advanced Rules Set
Revised A slight revision or clarification was made to the
advanced rules set on our "Competition Page." The rule previously read that you
may: "overlay two copies of the same original file and
process them differently to enhance dynamic range.” To clarify, you are not limited to only two copies of
the same original file. There is no limit to the number of duplicates you
can create of the same original file or the number of times you may process that
same file. The new rule reads that you may: "overlay multiple copies of the same original file and
process them differently to enhance dynamic range.” Again, I urge members not to be intimidated by the
advanced editing rules if the above rule does not make sense to you. Keep
attending our club meetings and reading our site and you'll learn how do do all
these techniques. And remember, you do not have to USE advanced editing
techniques to enter a photo into an advanced editing challenge. The
Advanced editing rules set allows you to do more but you are not required to do
anything to your photo other than resize it per our submission
guidelines. Elk and Big Horn Sheep Trip
Almost Full!! Over the weekend we announced an upcoming trip via email
for February 3rd to shoot photos of the Elk and Big Horn Sheep around
Naches. The trip is nearly booked full. We only have room for a few more
photographers so email us quick if you're interested! New Podcast for
Digital Photographers Your club president, Lee Farrell, is
co-hosting a new radio style program called the "Podcast for Digital Photographers"
(PDP) with his lovely co-host Judy Liosatos from Australia. For more information
and a link to the podcast, see our "Info Page" for our "Recommendations" of
websites. Contest Photos
Posted!!! A new Gallery section has been added to our "Photo
Gallery" page with all of the photos from the recent "Red" and "Seven Deadly
Sins" contests. Most people find comments and feedback much more valuable

Feed On opening night someone asked if we would have
subscription based updates to our website (also known as rss feeds). TCDPC has
created a new RSS feed which is now in testing. Click on the RSS button in the
Breaking News Section of the front page to get started. Ripoff
Alert!!! Beware camera deals that seem too good to be true! Read
how one of our very own club members had TWO online retailers try to pull a
common online scam on him this week and learn how to avoid it yourself. Check
out the Presiden'ts Blog link on the "Talk Back" page to read the how these
dishonest retailers scam people out of their money. TCDPC
Recommendations TCDPC has created a new "Recommendations Page" located
on our "Info Page." Check out where to get fantastic free software, what
websites will help you bone up on your photo skills, and what books you can buy
to get a chuckle and enjoy your new hobby. Everyone's Seeing
Red!!! I'm getting lots of
calls and emails letting me know members are out there shooting for this month's
"Red" challenge but no one has come forward with something for "Seven Deadly
Sins" (SDS). Don't forget that you can enter BOTH challenges and the SDS
challenge could be an easy ribbon for someone! Help us promote the
club!
TCDPC has created a new information
flyer you can
print out and hang up where you work or at your local coffee shop or library.
Business cards with our club website will also be available at our next club
meeting. Pick up some cards and pass them out to your friends or put them in
Christmas presents if you bought a digital camera for
someone. Saturday,
